How We Met
Our first date on March 29, 2017 — also Cesar's one year New York anniversary — was a tour of multiple cocktail bars in basements in SoHo. We jumped from meeting at Botanica, to invading a party of attorneys at Sweetwater Social, to Genuine Liquorette (RIP), eventually rounding out our night with drinks and waffle fries at Mother's Ruin.
Cesar was drinking bitters and sodas all night and when the bartender at Genuine Liquorette gave us shots on the house, Alex thought Cesar fell off the wagon (he had just not been drinking during the week — this was before hard seltzers, people!).
We bonded over our love of cocktails and the gone but not forgotten TV show Happy Endings. Alex spent the evening trying to convince Cesar that he was, indeed, from the South. And we've been making each other laugh ever since.

The Proposal
After the thunder died down from the wedding of Saul — Cesar's youngest brother — and Alicia — the event officiant! — Alex and Cesar traveled from Houston to New Orleans to meet up with friends for Thanksgiving 2022 and for Maykel and Marianne's birthdays.

Just before dinner at Jewel of the South, we met up with the group in our hotel bar at the Hotel St. Vincent. Ever since the topic came up, we always joked about who would ask who first, so Cesar brought two rings along from home so Alex could have the opportunity to ask the special question too (and of course we both said yes).

Afterward, to celebrate the birthdays and the engagement, we ran around the French Quarter to all of our favorite local bars, making sure to stop in Oz for a celebratory dance and photobooth picture session.
